Abrasive Wheels Training Ireland: On-Site Courses for Employers

This is hands-on group training, not an online video. The course covers the hazards of abrasive wheels, wheel markings and speed ratings, storage and handling, inspection for damage, and the correct mounting procedure. Every attendee then completes a practical assessment on the equipment they actually use at work. As a result, your staff learn on the grinder they will pick up tomorrow, not a stock photo. Each session takes around a half day. Every attendee receives a certificate on successful completion, valid for 3 years. Employers must ensure that only trained, competent persons mount abrasive wheels. This duty comes from the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the General Application Amendment Regulations of 2016. Consequently, anyone using angle grinders, cut-off saws, bench grinders, or pedestal grinders needs training before they start. The requirement applies across construction, engineering, manufacturing, agriculture, and maintenance work. Incorrect mounting causes serious injuries every year, so the law treats this as a competence task rather than common sense.
